Wellness Vision Examination
Your annual eye exam to update your glasses is considered a routine vision exam. These exams are billed through your vision insurance. At these exams we will check your vision and update your glasses prescription(s). Your examination will begin with initial testing to be completed by our staff technician. If you are 12 years or older a retinal photograph is also recommended. The technician works on data collection for Dr. Seidman.
Dr. Seidman will then discuss the entering test results with you and complete your ocular health evaluation. In creating an updated glasses prescription Dr. Seidman will discuss your visual needs such as working on a computer or playing golf. Dr. Seidman will create your personalized glasses prescription at your routine vision examinations. Dr. Seidman recommends a dilated retinal exam as part of your routine vision exam. Dr. Seidman will also evaluate your visual system function and structure to detect glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye, cataracts among other disorders.
At the completion of the ocular health evaluation. Dr. Seidman will introduce you to an optician to help you select the correct eyeglasses and lenses to provide you optimal vision.
Pediatric Eye Examination
Do you know we start eye exams routinely at the age of 1? Our pediatric patients will have their vision and ocular health evaluated similar to an adult routine eye exam. The tools and tests we use are different for children. For example vision testing can be done through matching pictures. The need for glasses can also be determined without much patient response as to which one is better, one or two? Often children cannot tell you they are experiencing any vision difficulty or changes in vision.
Dr. Seidman recommends dilation as part of all pediatric exams. This not only will allow her to get a more complete eye health picture, but it also allows her to check glasses prescription on a stable relaxed system. If your child is 12 years or older a retinal photo is also great for baseline. For some children the visit needs to be completed over multiple trips.
At the completion of the pediatric eye exam our optician can help your child find a frame that fits properly.
Medical Eye Health Examination
If you are visiting our office to have your glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, or even your dry eye evaluated your visit will be a medical eye health exam. These exams begin similar to a routine examination with the technician beginning the exam with various entering tests. Some tests will be tailored to the medical issue, for example if you are visiting for your glaucoma evaluation we may complete the GDx.
Dr. Seidman will review all the results with you. You and Dr. Seidman will develop a personalized treatment plan. Dr. Seidman will provide you any referrals needed for further testing and treatment with specialists. At this visit your glasses prescription will not be determined. Medical eye health exams may be done more frequently than once a year.
Contact lenses
If you are interested in wearing contact lenses we are here to help. Contact lens evaluations are done annually to provide a patient with their contact lens prescription. At your initial contact lens evaluation you will also receive training on proper handling, care and insertion and removal of your lenses. The training may take more than one visit prior to success.
At your contact lens evaluation Dr. Seidman will begin by checking for your most updated glasses prescription. Based on your prescription and vision needs you and Dr. Seidman will decide on what contact lens option is best for you. We have options that correct astigmatism, the need for reading glasses, and even corneal changes like keratoconus or post-RK changes.
Dr. Seidman will select the initial pair of lenses to try. She will then evaluate both your vision and fit of the contact lens on your eye. If vision, comfort or fit is unacceptable to you or Dr. Seidman, contact lenses can be altered accordingly. Your contact lens evaluation fee will cover you for a 90 day follow up period to allow you and Dr. Seidman to find the best contact lens option for your needs and eye health.
Retinal photography
Retinal photos are a great tool for monitoring for change over time. These photos are recommended annually for all patients 12 years of age or older. The photos are taken during your entry exam by the technician. Dr. Seidman will review the retinal photos with you. Many say the photos look like another planet. Many vision insurance plans offer retinal photos with a copayment. Retinal photos can also be done for specific eye diseases as part of monitoring and treatment. In this case the frequency of the test will vary.
